| Our Principles |
| At the Fair-trading Company, we believe positive trading partnerships are based on dialogue, transparency and respect. We seek greater equity in international trade. |
Together with our partners BRAC, we aspire to supporting our 62,000
artisans, who
live and work in developing countries where we Create
opportunities for economically disadvantaged people. Our
strategy focuses on poverty alleviation and sustainable
development. |
We support Transparency and accountability in commercial relations, to deal fairly and respectfully with all our producers and trading partners. Capacity building for us means developing our producers’ independence, skills and access to new markets.
| We aim to raise awareness of Fair Trade and the possibility of greater justice in world commerce. Through dialogue and participation, we ensure our producers are fairly compensated, which covers not only the costs of production but enables production which is socially just and environmentally sound. We provide fair pay to the producers and take into account the principle of equal pay for equal work by women and men. We also ensure pre-production financing for raw materials, where needed. We support Gender Equity where women are valued, their work properly rewarded, and their right to empowerment supported.
| Our Working environment is safe and healthy, where participation of children (if any) does not adversely affect their well-being, security, educational requirements and need for play and conforms to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child as well as the law and norms in the local context. We actively encourage better Environmental Policies and the application of responsible methods of production and promote Fair Trade Relations with concern for the social, economic, educational, health, and environmental well-being of marginalized producers and we do not maximise profit at their expense. We maintain long-term relationships based on solidarity, trust and mutual respect that contribute to the promotion and growth of Fair Trade. |
