Producer:
BRAC Shombhuganj Fair trade Paper Project
Shombhuganj Paper Project started in 2000 by BRAC, and
now employs over 70 people. Established to create a use
& market for post-consumer waste paper ..that’s the
paper we all throw away (which has greater environmental
benefits than simply using off-cuts from paper mills)!
After collection, the paper is sorted, cut into pieces
for processing. It is combined with other vegetable
matters to create different textures and qualities of
paper, we’d love you to meet Mr Ferose, our Paper
Master, who creates all types of paper from banana stem,
pineapple leaf, water lily, and wheat straw, to name but
a few. The paper can be colored or block/screen/marble
printed to make an incredible range of papers for
wrapping, gift bags, notebooks, boxes, envelopes &
lampshades.
